Favourite Records 2016: Balearic Disco, Jazz, Broken Best, Downtempo & more…

Each year I am asked to submit a list of my favourite records of the year for Jumbo records. They put the lists up on the wall in the shop as a talking point. I have annually put together a personal ‘best of mix’ to go with that list.

This year there have been so many great records, it was too hard to narrow down 10/12 tracks.  So I have put together a series of selections based losely around genre. These are linked below…

Balearic Disco

This one focused on a more upbeat, disco style take on Balearic grooves. Taking in the likes of Baldelli, Zmatsutsi and The Mushrooms Project this is a selection of chuggy, cosmic dancefloor tunes.

Labels include the Leeds based Balearic Social, Forest Jams, Claremont 56 – now celebrating its 10th anniversary – all of which have been consistently putting out incredible material.

Balearic & Downtempo

Next up is a selection of chilled tracks, with continuations from Ambala, Coyote, Steaua De Mare & Young Gun,  Silver Fox.  Laid back music for last afternoons and sunsets.

Jazzy Beats

There have been some superb releases in 2016 on a jazzy vibe. The return of the broken beat sound with the likes of Dego, Kaidi Tatham as well as New face a such as Tenderlonios and Henry Wu / Yussef Kamal setting the standard.
